European Countries part of the Shengen Area have a minor travel requirement. This is for NON- EU Residents. To avoid delays at the borders we kindly advise that you confirm the expiry dates on your passports to meet the following criteria below.
If you are a national from a country outside the EU wishing to visit or travel within the EU, you will need a valid passport and possibly a visa. Your passport should be valid for at least 3 months after the date you intend to leave the EU and it must have been issued within the last 10 years. This means your travel document must have been issued within the previous 10 years the day you enter the EU on condition that it is valid until the end of your stay plus an additional 3 months.
Water
The water is generally cool to lukewarm. The beaches have pebbles instead of sand, so keep this in mind as beach footwear might be a good idea. The water is very safe. Sometimes you may encounter salps in the water, which are harmless sea creatures -- they just feel slimy. Urchins are also native to the local waters but are found in deeper water. Keep your beach footwear on and just in case.
Weather
Akrata, also known as Krathio is a beach-side town. During the summer temperatures can reach 40 C (104 F) or higher. It does cool down during the night, but the overall temperature is pretty warm. Historically, June is not known for heat waves, but in recent years there have been some heat waves during this month.
Cash
Most places accept card payment but Akrata is still a small town and some smaller restaurants or shops may only accept cash so it's a good idea to have cash handy. There are a few different ATMs available in Akrata but a broader selection would be available in Athens.
